Intermont Search and Rescue is a non-profit organization based in Damascus,
Virginia. We are a Team of the Black Diamond Search and Rescue Council. We can
provide Incident Command, staff and Ground Search resources for lost person
searches in both wilderness and urban settings, downed aircraft throughout
Virginia, and any other services we can help you with!. Our main service area is
South West VA. Our members are trained in technical and semi-technical rescue,
search tactics/techniques and land navigation.
Search And
Rescue involves locating and evacuating persons who are trapped, lost and/or
injured. ISAR specializes in wilderness SAR, we can conduct our search and
rescue activities in areas ranging from towns to rugged and less-populated
outdoor areas.
All it takes to be an a member of ISAR is a strong
commitment to help others and a love for the outdoors. When, where and how often
you respond is totally up to you.
It has been estimated that in excess of 50,000 SAR missions are conducted
each year in the United States. That’s nearly 137 each day or just about 6
missions per hour. Remarkably, over 90% of these missions are executed by
volunteers.
